If you’re applying for an Australian student or skilled visa, it’s essential to understand which English tests for Australian visas are accepted. As of 7 August 2025, the Australian Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has expanded the list of approved English proficiency tests. This update gives international students and skilled migrants more flexibility when proving their English language skills for visa purposes.

Below, we break down the updates and what they mean for you.

✅ What’s New?

The DHA has now officially approved three new English tests for visa purposes:

  • LANGUAGECERT Academic
  • CELPIP General
  • MET (Michigan English Test)

These are now accepted alongside the traditional options like IELTS, PTE Academic, and TOEFL iBT — but only when taken at an authorised test centre.

❗ At-home or remote online versions of these tests are not accepted for visa purpose
