Work in Australia

Australia’s economy has remained strong throughout recent years, leading to a high demand for skilled migrants. The Australian General Skilled Migration program is targeted for migrants with skills in particular occupations that have skill shortages that can contribute to the Australian economy. Migrants under this category must satisfy a points test, possess specific work skills, may have an employer nomination or be nominated by a state/territory government or sponsorship by a family member among other requirements.

Skilled migrants wishing to work in Australia on a permanent basis are assessed on a points based system; with points awarded for work experience, qualifications and language proficiency. Other ways of obtaining immigration visas to Australia include the Australian Family Migration, and Humanitarian Programs. The Migration Program is currently planned and managed annually, with the Program set at an annual planning ceiling of 160,000 places for the financial year 2019-2020 and 70% of places are allocated for skilled visas and 30% for family visa categories.

Australia faces a long term skill shortage, so it’s the perfect time to make your skilled migration application. The occupations in shortage include accountants, IT professionals, engineers, construction managers, finance professionals, nurses, teachers, social workers, scientists, architects, community service professionals, administrators and tradespeople. Trades in shortage include plumbers, electricians, tilers, metal fabricators, carpenters, bricklayers, fitters, aircraft trades, electronics trades, motor mechanics, painters, welders and many others.

The visa process takes on average between 9 to 12 months to complete, giving you the opportunity to organise your departure from your country and arrival in Australia.
