Australia offers excellent value and high-quality education to international students at competitive costs.
International students will need to pay tuition fees. However, despite providing quality comparable to the best, the cost of education in Australia is comparatively much lower than in UK or USA. In addition, higher education in Australia provides value for money by offering shorter, more intensive courses than those available in other countries, thereby reducing living expenses.
These costs may vary depending on the course or institution. Therefore, average costs are provided below and should only be used as a guide.
Cost of living in Australia
The transport options available in Australia include buses, trains, trams and ferries. Your access to these transport services will vary depending on where you live. You will also be able to access private and public car services such as taxis. Usually, the government provides transport concessions to international students.
Health insurance cover
It is compulsory for all international students to have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for themselves and their dependents (where applicable) for the intended period of stay. The current cost for OSHC single cover ranges between AUD 600-750 approx per annum depending on the duration of your studies.
220 – 320 AUD/week On Campus: College hostels (self-catered or fully catered)
100 – 400 AUD/week Off-Campus: Renting a flat/apartment
230 – 350 AUD/week Homestay (living with an Australian Family)- early application for accommodation arrangements is advisable.
The average international student in Australia spends about 21,041 AUD/year on accommodation, food, clothing, entertainment, transport, international and domestic travel, telephone and incidental costs. While this is a practical guide, it is essential to remember that individual circumstances vary by location, course and lifestyle.
