Short answers to the questions families ask us most often. For anything else, ask us: the consultation is free.
Can I start a master’s in Canada directly after my bachelor’s?
Yes, if you meet the programme’s grade and English requirements. Several institutions in this guide offer direct master’s entry; others offer a graduate pathway first. See Master’s options.
Is a graduate certificate the same as a master’s?
No. A graduate certificate or post-graduate diploma is a shorter, career-focused college programme. It is not a master’s degree, and its work-permit rules are stricter (field of study, CLB 5).
I finished 11 years of school. Can I go straight to a Canadian university?
Usually not directly. A foundation year or a university’s preparation programme is the common route; some universities assess each school system differently, so we check your case.
Do I need IELTS?
For admission, each institution sets its own test and scores; many accept IELTS Academic, TOEFL, PTE or Duolingo, and pathway colleges offer English programmes instead. For a work permit after graduation you need a different test: IELTS General Training, CELPIP or PTE Core.
How much money do we need to show?
The first year’s tuition, plus CAD 23,448 for one student’s living costs outside Quebec (applications from 1 September 2026), plus travel. More for each family member who comes with you.
Can I work while I study?
If you are an eligible full-time student, up to 24 hours a week off campus during term and full time in scheduled breaks. Not while you study only English or a pathway stage that does not lead to a credential.
Will I be able to stay and work after graduation?
Many graduates of eligible programmes can apply for a post-graduation work permit of up to three years. It depends on the programme, a language test and other conditions; nobody can guarantee it, or permanent residence.
What happens when I move from a pathway college to the university?
It depends on the letter of acceptance. Several pathway colleges in this guide now issue it under the university’s designated learning institution number, so one study permit covers both stages. Where the college has its own number (for example the International College of Manitoba), you need a new study permit, and usually a new attestation letter, before you start at the university. We check this with you before you apply.
Are there scholarships for students from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Romania?
Yes, mostly from the universities and pathway colleges themselves: each institution profile lists its awards, amounts and conditions, and the Scholarships chapter brings them together. Ask us what you may be eligible for.
How long does the study permit take?
IRCC’s posted time on 21 October 2026 was about 6 weeks from Kazakhstan and 4 weeks from Uzbekistan. Apply as soon as you have your letter of acceptance and attestation letter.
Does MultiPath charge for its help?
Our consultation and application support are free. We represent the institutions in this guide and are paid by the institution if you enrol. You can also apply to any institution directly yourself.
Can MultiPath advise on my visa?
We explain the published rules and help with your institution documents, but we are not licensed Canadian immigration consultants. For immigration advice we refer you to a licensed consultant (RCIC) or lawyer.
