Scholarships and funding

Chapter 7 of 10 Last published 26 October 2026 Facts verified 25 October 2026

Most Australian scholarships for international students are tuition reductions from the university itself: a percentage off the fee, usually for the whole course if you keep the required grades. Many are automatic with your offer; others need an application or are limited in number.

How scholarships work in Australia

  • Percentage or fixed amount. Most awards take 10% to 30% off tuition, some up to 50% or more for outstanding students; others are a fixed amount such as AUD 10,000 a year. The profile says which.
  • Automatic or competitive. “Automatic” means everyone who meets the published criteria receives it with the offer. “Competitive” or “limited” awards need an application or are decided by a committee; “up to” means the amount can be lower.
  • Eligibility. Some awards are for students of certain nationalities, regions or courses only. The condition is shown next to each scholarship: check it applies to you.
  • Deadlines and acceptance. Early-acceptance awards need you to accept the offer and pay the deposit by a date on the offer letter. Missing it usually means losing the award.
  • Keeping it. Continuing awards normally require a minimum grade average every year and full-time study.
  • One fee, one reduction. A scholarship reduces the published tuition: do not deduct it twice. Most universities allow only one tuition scholarship at a time unless the terms say otherwise.

The list below is built from the institution profiles, so each award appears with the same amount and conditions as in the profile. Fees and awards are for the year stated.
